Bengaluru: A senior doctor at the government-run Victoria Hospital has landed in trouble after allegedly harassing and assaulting her estranged husband and his parents.
Dr Priyadarshini N, Casualty Medical Officer (CMO) at Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI), is accused of forcibly entering her in-laws' home in RHCS Layout, West Bengaluru, on March 10 and assaulting them. She allegedly struck her husband, Naveen Kumar, and his parents on the head and back in the presence of her children.
The couple has been married since 2007.
Following a complaint from her father-in-law, Narasimhaiah J, the Annapoorneshwari Nagar police booked Dr Priyadarshini under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The Medical Education Department, which runs the BMCRI, has taken the matter seriously, noting that such conduct "is unbecoming of a government doctor".
Acting on directions from Principal Secretary Mohammad Mohsin, Director of Medical Education Dr Sujatha Rathod issued a show-cause notice to Dr Priyadarshini on March 14. She has been asked to submit a written explanation regarding the incident, failing which disciplinary action will be taken.
In statement, the department cited reports that suggest that Dr Priyadarshini has been harassing her in-laws for the past 10 years. She has already filed for divorce, and court proceedings are pending.
Following the March 10 incident, police issued a notice to Dr Priyadarshini but the couple later reached a compromised at the police station, according to an investigator.
