The crazy world of fashion is known to take inspiration from everything possible and it was not before they turned to the heavens for some assistance.
No, not literally. Zodiac signs are hot property on the ramps and runways right now and the trend of wearing lipstick according to your sunsign has left many excited, many amused and quite a few exasperated.
Says Niharika
Jhunjhunwala, founder of Sugarbox, “I feel zodiac lipsticks are a good way of experimenting with different colours and styles. Usually, girls stick to 2-3 shades that suit their
skin tone, but this new trend of bold and novel colours according to elliptical patterns is a new change for the ambitious women.”
While it is rumoured that the Bollywood beauties have taken to this trend in a big way (think Aishwarya in that purple shade pr Priyanka flaunting a bright red), not everyone is impressed.
“Lipsticks are a great way to brighten up your look and bring a smile to your face. But while it is an integral part of my makeup, I can’t spend all my time figuring out the position of my stars and subsequently, my lucky colour. Also, I like to wear different shades and mix and match and don’t like the idea of sticking to just one shade,” says Priyanka Jain, a professional.
Says Tania Vaswani, a professional, “Personally I am not much of a believer in this concept. I wear any colour I feel like wearing, whenever I want to. And I am not sure how many people actually manage to follow this trend though.”
So popular is this concept right now, that brands are coming out with different shades of a colour for all the star-crossed fashionistas.
But it would be advisable to have a personal astrologer, like a personal stylist, if you plan to follow this trend, says
Roshini.
“Because different websites recommend different colours for you. So while some sites say Aries can go for hot pink, other say Mauve will be a more suitable colour for them. And there is a tussle for colours too. It seems as if both Cancer and Scorpio will prefer purple colour, Aquarius and Libra are undecided over who should get soft pink and the list goes on,” she explains laughingly.
All said and done, it is not just the onscreen stars who you can follow to get your style quotient up to date. Sometimes the ones up in the sky are good guides too.
