Bengaluru: The city police have arrested six people, including four women, for allegedly honey-trapping a bike taxi driver and extorting Rs 51,000 in Hebbal, north Bengaluru.
The suspects were identified as Harish and Venkatesh, both autorickshaw drivers, along with Geetha, Manjula, Vijayalakshmi, and Leelavathi.
The police said Manjula, who had the victim’s contact, knew he was searching for a bride. She lured him by claiming to know a prospective match in Hebbal and arranged a meeting.
After the victim agreed, Manjula took him to Vijayalakshmi’s house, where Leelavathi and Geetha were also present. The three women soon left, claiming they were giving the pair privacy. Moments later, Harish and Venkatesh barged in, posing as police officers, and accused the victim of running a prostitution racket.
The duo then extorted Rs 51,000 from him in exchange for his release. Suspecting foul play, the victim later confided in his friends, who advised him to file a police complaint.
Investigators tracked the money trail and arrested the suspects.
