Six student teams win solar decathlon contest

Six student teams were declared winners of 'Solar Decathlon India', a competition that aimed to build next generation leaders among college students who can develop solutions for various challenges in adopting energy efficiency measures.
The event, conducted by the Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS), saw 41 multidisciplinary teams presenting net-zero building designs. The winners included five teams that focused on critical building problems faced in India and one product design division that challenged participants to come up with solutions to improve cooling performance in residential buildings.
A grand jury made up of investors, real estate experts, and media stalwarts picked the winners.
In the multi-family housing category, Team Astitva from BMS institutes had the best solution. Team Nirmaan from Manipal institutes came up with the best solution for educational buildings. Team MAA-EARTH, comprising students from different institutes, won the office building category. Team Centauri from IIT Kharagpur was declared the winner in the community resilience shelter category, while Team Anvaya won in the construction worker housing segment. In the product design category, Team Kalpana from Manipal institutes won for their residential cooling retrofit.
