Traffic woes on the Outer Ring Road near EcoSpace at Bellandur are likely to minimise with the soft launch of a newly built skywalk on Monday.

As many as 30 companies at EcoSpace and PriTech Technology Parks joined hands to construct the skywalk 17 months ago at a cost of Rs. 4.7 crore. In the absence of a skywalk, people risked crossing the road, leading to accidents and traffic jams. The companies which decided to build the skywalk did a survey and found that during peak hours at least 25,000 people cross the road.

Often, pedestrian safety took a beating and many accidents were reported on a daily basis. A majority of minor accidents would go unreported.

Finally, the Outer Ring Road Companies’ Association took it upon itself to address the problem. They decided to build the skywalk in collaboration with Bangalore Development Authority, Bescom, Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board and the Bengaluru traffic police.

Vijay Anand, senior vice president and managing director of Intuit Technologies, said, “This is a fine example of how companies can come together to help themselves as well as the common people in collaboration with government agencies for the safety of employees and fellow commuters.”
