Biocon chief Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw once again raised concerns over Bengaluru’s poor infrastructure, taking to X on Monday to question the government’s commitment to making the city investor-friendly.

She pointed to the bad roads and garbage piling up across the city, asking why India still struggles to fix such basic civic issues “even when the winds are favourable.”

Her post read, "I had an overseas business visitor to Biocon Park who said ‘ Why are the roads so bad and why is there so much garbage around? Doesn’t the Govt want to support investment? I have just come from China and cant understand why India can’t get its act together especially when the winds are favourable?’ @siddaramaiah @DKShivakumar @PriyankKharge".

The post struck a chord with many Bengalureans, drawing widespread support from residents who echoed her concerns. Several users shared photos of overflowing garbage dumps, pothole-ridden stretches, and neglected neighbourhoods, calling her remarks a reflection of the city’s everyday reality.

Reacting to the post by Shaw, Karnataka Minister M B Patil, called her an 'asset' to the stat and country, that said, he also called out her 'tweeting' while the city is working on the said issues is 'not in good taste.'

Mazumdar-Shaw, a long-time critic of Bengaluru’s civic condition, has often called out the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for what she describes as inefficiency in managing waste and road maintenance.

Previously in a post she wrote that Bengaluru’s “filthy” appearance was not just a result of official apathy but also the lack of civic sense among some residents.

Mazumdar-Shaw has repeatedly warned that Bengaluru’s reputation as India’s innovation and investment hub is at risk if civic infrastructure continues to deteriorate. “How can we expect global investors to look at Bengaluru seriously when the city itself looks neglected?” she had said in an earlier post.
