Bengaluru: Bolava Vitthal, an evening dedicated to soulful abhangs and the Varkari Bhakti tradition, will be held on Friday at 6.30 pm at Malleswaram’s Chowdiah Memorial Auditorium.
The 20th edition of the concert will feature renowned artistes Anand Bhate, Mugdha Vaishampayan, and Prathamesh Laghate. They will be accompanied by instrumentalists Prasad Padhye (tabla), Sukhad Munde (pakhawaj), Aditya Oke (harmonium), Shadaj Godkhindi (flute), and Suryakant Surve (rhythms).
"Bolava Vitthal is not just a concert; it is an emotional offering,” said Bhate, a disciple of Pt Bhimsen Joshi.
The festival draws inspiration from the centuries-old Wari pilgrimage to Pandharpur, Maharashtra, where devotees gather annually to sing abhangs.
The event is curated by Shashi Vyas, founder of Pancham Nishad, an arts organisation that promotes Indian classical and devotional music through festivals and concerts.
