In a freak accident on Thursday night, a speeding cab mowed down an injured biker and a driver who pulled up to help him on the airport flyover near Yelahanka.
The biker, Srinivasulu (32), died on the spot while the driver Ganesh S (42), residing in KP Agrahara on Magadi Road, succumbed to his injury at the hospital.
A senior police official said Srinivasulu was riding with his friend Venkata Reddy from Chintamani. At 10.30 pm, Srinivasulu pulled up to the side of the flyover to talk on his phone.
Could not spot parked bike
Ganesh, who drove towards the city from the airport, could not spot the parked bike in the darkness and crashed into the two-wheeler which knocked down Srinivasulu and hoisted Reddy to the barricade.
When Ganesh pulled up his cab and tried helping the injured duo, another speeding car knocked him and Srinivasulu before crashing into Ganesh’s cab. The driver of the speeding cab was identified as Rajesh.
Venkata Reddy gave a statement to the police at the hospital he was admitted to, saying he and Srinivasulu were housekeeping staff and were residents of Hunasamaranahalli. He said they were coming to the city to meet their relatives.
Yelahanka traffic police rushed to the spot and arrested Rajesh and seized the cab. He was booked for rash and negligent driving causing accidental death.
Ganesh’s brother Ravi donated the dead driver’s eyes to fulfil his wish. Ravi told DH that his brother had been a cab driver for the past 13 years and is survived by a wife and a son, who did not know about the accident until he was shifted to MS Ramaiah Hospital.
Ganesh died Friday morning. At 8.45 pm, he told his wife that he was coming home since he was not feeling well.
