A 40-year-old software engineer was killed on the spot when his bike was knocked down by a minibus on NICE Road near Electronics City on Monday night.

The deceased, Vishwajith, was a resident of Nagadevanahalli near Ullal Upanagar, and worked for Tech Mahindra in Electronics City Phase-2.

The police said the accident happened around 10.30 pm on the NICE Road near the Begur-Koppa bridge when Vishwajith was returning from work.

It began raining and Vishwajith, who was on his bike, was slowing down when a speeding minibus, driven in a rash and negligent manner, knocked him down.

The impact was so severe that the rider sustained grievous head injuries despite wearing an ISI mark helmet, and died on the spot.

A few passers-by shifted him to Vijayshree Hospital in Gottigere, where he was declared brought dead. His body was then taken to St John’s Hospital for postmortem, after which it was handed over to his family.

Rash driving

The Electronics City police have registered a case of accidental death due to rash and negligent driving and have arrested the minibus driver, identified as Yusuf Khan. The police have also seized the minibus attached to Annapurna Travels.

Vishwajith is a native of Madurai. He is survived by his wife and two children.
