State moves SC on BBMP elections

In its petition, the State government expressed its inability to conduct the elections in a “hurry” owing to the lengthy procedure in completing the ward- wise reservation system.
Though in the petition, the State sought sufficient time to hold the polls, it did not specify the time it required to complete the entire process.

Requesting the court to extend the March deadline, the Karnataka government said the new reservation system would require giving sufficient time to the public to file objections.

Also, it cited several other reasons, too, in seeking extension of time, which included non-availability of schools or staff to conduct polls due to imminent school examinations in March and the budget session, which is scheduled to start on February 20.
