Street vendors to get ID cards, hawking zones

BBMP commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad told reporters the BBMP will get a list of street vendors from their association and fix the places where they can carry on with their business.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will issue identity cards to street vendors to prevent Palike and police officials from harassing them.

“We will identify hawker zones in each ward where these vendors will be given space. These zones will have adequate facilities such as drinking water, toilets and lockers,” said Prasad.

He explained that Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014 was passed three years ago under which these vendors will be provided identity cards.
