An engineering student was arrested for uploading bathing video clips of his girl classmates on their Facebook pages from fake FB accounts and blackmailing them. He had accessed the video clips through another girl at the ladies hostel in the college.

The Parappana Agrahara police have identified the accused as Siddarth, a student of a private engineering college in Choodasandra in southeast Bengaluru and his girlfriend, also a student, whose identity the police did not disclose. She is yet to be arrested, the police said.

The police have taken Siddarth into their custody and will soon seize the gadgets that he was using. He has been booked under various sections of the Information Technology Act.

According to the police, Siddarth used a girl student at the hostel who recorded bathing videos on her phone at the ladies hostel’s bathrooms and used to pass them on to Siddarth. He, in turn, would create fake FB accounts from which he used to upload the videos onto their Facebook accounts blackmailing them and demanding that they cooperate with him. Siddarth’s victims were his classmates.

According to the police, this is the second time that one of the victims had filed a complaint. In July, the same victim had lodged a complaint with the Parappana Agarahara police and the police had deleted all the videos Siddarth had uploaded on her Facebook page.

However, Siddarth continued his activities and managed to obtain bathing clips of not only the girls, but also the mother of one of the girls who had come to stay at the hostel for a few days. Unable to bear harassment, one of the victims with the help of other classmates tracked down the Facebook account through the IP address which originated from Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu. She confirmed that the address belonged to a relative of Siddarth. The police then arrested Siddarth.
