All the 72 students at Dr SG Reddy Polytechnic, Marathahalli, are set to be moved to another college in the city as the institution has been found ill-equipped for teaching.
The Directorate of Technical Education will move the students to any other polytechnic in BBMP limits following directions from the Higher Education Department.
H U Talwar, Director, Technical Education, told DH: “We had received complaints from students in early March. We inspected the college in April 2018 and found a lot of irregularities in the administration. Teachers were not paid properly, leading to staff shortage and an unfriendly atmosphere for students. With these problems, the college was not fit for studies. Considering the future of 72 students, who are studying in different courses, we reported the matter to the Higher Education Department. We will move students out based on their choice of college and ensure their academics are not affected.”
The department treated the case as a special one and passed the order on the relocation of students. “The college cannot run courses this year,” Talwar said. It will be permitted to reopen later only when it proves its credentials, he added.
The polytechnic was established in 1998 by the SGR Technical and Educational Society, which was set up in 1985. The society’s founder-chairman was the late Prof Dr S Ganesh Reddy.
