Bengaluru: Sunday showers triggered traffic snarls and tree falls in many parts of the city.
Waterlogging caused slow-moving traffic from Veerasandra Junction towards Hosur Road, and from Hosur Road towards the city centre. Slow-moving traffic was also reported on both sides of Varthur Main Road due to waterlogging.
BTM 2nd Stage, Madavara, and Devanahalli areas also saw moderate rainfall, triggering heavy traffic and waterlogging.
The BBMP control room reported tree falls in Chamarajpet, Kumaraswamy Layout, Kamala Nagar, and CV Raman Nagar. Officials said no pedestrians or vehicles were damaged due to the tree falls.
A tree fall on the road was reported in Maruthi Nagar, while another tree fell on an electric wire at Chamundi Layout on Kogilu Main Road in Yelahanka, according to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) control room.
BBMP data also revealed that a car was damaged on Kogilu Main Road. However, no injuries were reported.
Till 8.30 pm on Sunday, the Kempegowda International Airport observatory recorded 16.6 mm of rainfall. The HAL airport and Bengaluru city observatories recorded 1 mm and 0.8 mm, respectively.
N Puviarasan, Head of the Bengaluru Meteorological Centre, India Meteorological Department (IMD), said that dry weather is likely to prevail in the city until April 25, after which light to moderate pre-monsoon thunderstorms are expected to continue.
Currently, a trough from north-central Maharashtra to the Gulf of Mannar runs from northeastern Vidarbha to the Gulf of Mannar across Telangana, Interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, and Tamil Nadu at 1.5 km above mean sea level, according to the IMD.
