The crater-riddled and filthy Kalasipalyam bus stand will soon turn swanky with state-of-the-art facilities.

Bringing much-needed relief to commuters, the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is all set to construct a bus terminal on an area spread across four acres and 13 guntas at a cost of Rs 60 crore. The terminal is expected to be ready in 24 months.

DH had published a series of reports on the poor condition of the bus stand which is plagued by several issues, including lack of basic amenities. No less than three lakh passengers travel from this bus stand using BMTC, KSRTC and private buses every day.

On Thursday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah laid the foundation stone for the project, besides inaugurating a new bus depot at Anjanapura. Apart from platforms, drinking water, toilets and seating facilities, the proposed bus terminus at Kalasipalyam will also include BMTC offices, food court, shops and terrace parking facilities with a covered roof.
