The installation of 27-foot bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi between Vidhana Soudha and Vikasa Soudha has commenced.

Master sculptor Ram V Sutur has sculpted the statue at Ram Sutar Art Creation Pvt Ltd, Noida.

It will be inaugurated on October 2, the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation.
The statue, world’s biggest bust of Gandhi in a meditative posture, is being transported from Noida to Bangalore in three pieces.

The 13-foot pedestal and one portion of the statue is already in place and the other pieces would be assembled in a couple of days. It is being put together in such a way that there are cut frames inside the structure that can be dismantled.

The statue, has cost Rs 11 crore, and required 19 tonne of bronze and seven tonne of stainless steel.

Legislative Council Chairman D H Shankaramurthy, who reviewed the installation, said process would be completed by September 27.

The State government had planned to invite President Pranab Mukherjee but it did not materialise given his prior engagements, Shankaramurthy said.

Secretariat sources said efforts were also made to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, PMO had replied the prime minister had other commitments on that day.

Shankaramurthy said he would discuss with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on who should inaugurate the statue.
