The mystery woman whose body was discovered at an isolated spot off Anekal Main Road in Kalkere village on February 21 has been identified as a resident of Mandya.
Police said 20-year-old Ambika Krishnagowda, a resident of Eeremarahalli in Melkote Hobli, Pandavapura taluk, Mandya, was found with her throat slit.
They suspect Ambika was murdered in another place and her body was dumped inside one of the mini-forests near Sakalvara Gate in Jigani hobli in Anekal. Police have shifted her body to the Victoria Hospital for an inquest.
The incident came to light when a local man, Mohan Raj, noticed some clothes from a distance while attending the nature’s call at Sakalvara Gate as he headed back to Koli Farm after buying flowers.
Raj went to check the clothes and found it was the body of a woman. He immediately informed the police who rushed to the spot and conducted inquiries.
The woman was wearing jeans and a T-shirt, and police found tattoos on hands: three stars, the letters DPH, the name Viji, and the tattoo of a horse.
Bannerghatta police, who registered a case of murder, circulated the photographs of the tattoos and the body and learnt that she was a Mandya resident. They are interviewing her family members to obtain clues about the murder.
