The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has filed a review petition and an appeal before the Karnataka High Court against a lower court order that directed the Bangalore Mysore Infrastructure Corridor Planning Authority (BMICPA) to acquire 40 acres of land in Kodiyala and Karenahalli villages in Ramanagar district against the Transferrable Developmental Rights (TDR) on behalf of the BBMP.

The Palike Commissioner M Lakshminarayana informed the BBMP Council on Monday about the petitions following a heated debate on this issue where the corporators alleged that issuing TDR outside the BBMP limits would be a violation of the Karnataka Municipal Corporation (KMC) Act.

Raising the matter, Nagapura corporator S Harish said the TDRs are meant to be issued to acquire land for the widening of road, parks, playgrounds and civic amenity sites within the BBMP limits. However, the acquisition of 40 acres of land in Koliyala and Karenahalli shows that the scheme was grossly misused to benefit a few.

Former Mayor and Katriguppe corporator D Venkatesh Murthy urged Mayor B S Satyanarayana and the commissioner to scrap the proposed acquisition of land outside the BBMP on TDR as it will set a wrong precedence.
