Harini R, a homemaker from Kengeri, was allegedly stabbed at least 12 times in the torso by Yashas, a 25-year-old techie, in room number 204 at Emara Galaxy GM Royals Oyo Lodge in Uttarahalli on the intervening night of June 6 and 7, according to police.

Police arrested Yashas, who is also from Kengeri, on June 8 after he was discharged from KIMS Hospital, where he had checked himself in over a knife wound, an officer close to the investigation said.

The knife wound, the officer added, was self-inflicted in an attempt to mislead the police into believing he had tried to kill himself.

Police investigations revealed that Harini had asked Yashas to maintain distance from her and end the relationship as her husband had caught wind of their affair. Enraged, Yashas allegedly carried a knife into the hotel room and stabbed her at least 12 times in the torso before fleeing the scene.

According to the police, Harini had been married to Dasegowda H P (41), a farmer, since 2012. They had two girl children aged 13 and 10.

Investigations revealed that Harini and Yashas met on Facebook three years ago but a constant contact was established a year ago. "Their relationship bloomed and had turned intimate over the past six months,” a police investigator told DH.

Two months ago, Harini started avoiding Yashas, and asked him to stay away from her. To further discuss the situation, they met at the hotel on June 6, and an argument broke out, which ended in the murder, police officials said.

Harini’s husband Dasegowda told the police that she used to talk to Yashas frequently on the phone and that he had brought the matter to the notice of her brother and mother. "Despite being advised to cut off contact, she continued to be in touch with Yashas," he said.
