Murugesh, the deceased, was a software engineer with the Tata Consulting Services (TCS).
He visited Sri Vivekananda Ashram, located amid the Bannerghatta forests, on Sunday, along with three of his friends.
On their way back to the City, they decided to take a dip in an artificial water body, which was around 10 feet deep. After swimming for an hour, Murugesh was unable to continue and eventually called out for help. Though his friends tried to pull him out in vain.
Murugesh’s body was recovered by the Fire Brigade by around 8 pm. The body has been taken to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem.
Artificial water bodies
En route from Bannerghatta to the City, the way is lined with many artificial water bodies or check-dams made for elephants in the forest area. The police said that the water body, where the four friends took a dip, was also made keeping the wild elephants in mind. Murugesh was from Mangalore. He was residing at Mathikere, M S Ramaiah Nagar.
Murugesh and his three friends were students of the Sri Ramakrishna Ashram located in the City.
