A fault in the circuit wring that draws power from the third rail halted a Whitefield-bound Purple Line train shortly after it left Vijayanagar around 9.15 am.

"The train couldn't be moved in any direction for quite some time. After a lot of tweaks, it was eventually taken back to Vijayanagar, where passengers were deboarded. An empty train was also sent right behind it as a precaution to evacuate passengers if the first one halted again," a senior BMRCL official told DH. "It was a rare glitch. We suspect short circuit, but are still investigating."

Train services between Challaghatta and Majestic were temporarily stopped. As a cascading effect, train services on the Green Line also ran late.

Train services on the Purple Line up to Mysuru Road were normalised at 10.15 am, while services between Mysuru Road and Challaghatta were restored by 10.45 am, according to the BMRCL.

A passenger boarding a metro train at Kadugodi Tree Park after 10 am faced anxious moments after the display board showed the next train was after 38 minutes, against the usual headway of seven minutes. However, the issue was resolved soon after, and he got a train within the next few minutes.
