Bengaluru: The first India-assembled train for Namma Metro's Yellow Line will be dispatched from West Bengal on January 6, while the second train will be delivered by January-end or early February and the third in April, Bangalore South MP, LS Tejasvi Surya, said on Thursday.
Thereafter, one train will be delivered per month and by September, two trains per month, he added.
The 19.15-km Yellow Line, which connects RV Road with Bommasandra, has long been ready but its opening has been delayed for want of trains. Most of this line falls within Surya's parliamentary constituency.
Writing on social media platform X, Surya conceded that the delay in Yellow Line operations was "frustrating", but promised that he had been following with the train manufacturer Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (TRSL) to expedite production.
The BJP parliamentarian said he would visit the TRSL plant on January 6 during the train's dispatch to Bengaluru. He had also requested the union of housing and urban affairs to inspect the plant that day and flag off the train.
He asked the BMRCL to work parallelly to get all statutory approvals to prevent further delays.
In December, the BMRCL announced that the first India-assembled trainset would reach the Hebbagodi depot in Bengaluru by January 15.
The BMRCL received the Yellow Line prototype train in February 2024 and is conducting trial runs.
With four trains in April (prototype plus three from TRSL), the BMRCL may start the Yellow Line with a 30-minute frequency, if all approvals are in place.
