Church Street, which has been in a bad state for over a decade, will finally get a facelift with BBMP developing it under the TenderSURE project at a cost of Rs 9 crore.

On Tuesday, Bengaluru Development Minister K J George performed the ground-breaking ceremony for the work. The stretch will have 40 LED streetlights and bay parking facility that can accommodate 103 two-wheelers and 32 four-wheelers.

The project comprises development and strengthening of the carriageway with uniform lane width and development of pedestrian-friendly footpaths. The entire project is expected to be completed by July 2017.

BBMP chief engineer K T Nagaraj said the project is expected to be completed on time as the 715-metre stretch is a one-way. Work will be taken up on one side of the road first and then the other so traffic is unlikely to be affected, he said.

However, people who depend on the stretch for parking will have to find space elsewhere.
Mayor G Padmavathi, BBMP Commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad and Shanthinagar MLA N A Haris were present on the occasion.
