Bengaluru: A city-based activist and advocate has petitioned Inspector General of Police (Central Range) Labhu Ram, alleging that the inspector of the Surya Nagar police station underreported the quantity of gold recovered in a theft case.

Venkatachalapathy, the advocate, claimed that Inspector Sanjeev Kumar Mahajan and his team recovered around 2 kg of gold, but declared only 200 grams in their official report. He alleged that the remaining gold was shared among the inspector and his personnel.

He also said after arresting the suspects, the police rounded up shop owners who had purchased the stolen gold, held them in a lodge, and recovered about 2 kg from them.

The Additional Superintendent of Police has initiated an inquiry into the allegations.
