The PES College has taken many initiatives to nurture the inherent talent in every student. The college has set up an exclusive committee to channelise the students’ passion and ensure their improvement. The students have formed many cultural forums under the guidance of this committee and take active part in the various extra-curricular activities of the college.
A forum for debate and speech called Ajeya is one such active association formed by the students. The forum comprises more than 45 students, who represent the college in debate, lecture, speech and essay writing competitions.
Professor Nirmala B Patil, the president of the cultural committee says that the team has never come back from any competition without winning. “The team has got outstanding performers. Their confidence levels, data collecting skills and presentation styles are amazing. They are up-to-date in current affairs and always deliver the subject with the necessary facts and statistics. Now, I have been maintaining a separate register to keep a track of their achievements and our showcase is full of shields thanks to the Ajeya team,” she says.
The team has won many prizes at the inter-collegiate festivals held at National College, St Joseph’s College, VVN College and RBANMS College.
N Leelavathi, a second year B Com student, is one of the dynamic students of the team, who secured third prize at a national level lecture competition held at National College and a first prize in a State level debate competition conducted by the Youth Welfare Department of Karnataka.
Along with Anusha Singhu, she also won a prize for her college in an inter-collegiate debate competition held at Bharathmata College recently. Anusha Singu, Anusha Hegde and Vigneshwar Hegde are the most active students of the forum.
“Since my school days, I have been participating in debate and lecture competitions but representing the college is more challenging. Here we have to be thorough with current affairs and we should have a mature mind to analyse the facts and a confident voice to present our views. Our professors give valuable suggestions in this regard and they help us present faultless lectures on stage,” says Leelavathi.
