The problem was widespread. But this should take the cake: Only six names were registered in an apartment complex in HSR Layout, that had 60 families. The voters’ list could have been either manipulated or it was plain negligence by the authorities.
Only six lucky ones could vote at the Sobha Oynx Apartments in HSR Layout. One of the unregistered voter was Krutibas Biswal, a resident there. While Biswal had moved into the apartment complex recently, he had registered his name under the new address this year. “But the names of even families who have been living here for a long time are missing,” he said.
Sheela, another resident, had moved into the apartments a year back. She and the others had registered their names following an NGO’s efforts to get people vote. “But on Sunday, the name was not found at the polling station,” she said. The names were registered in early January.
The story echoed through the City. Among them were Shanmugan and his wife Aruna’s whose names were found missing for the second election in a row. "We have been staying here for a long time. How can our names be missing. This happened during Lok Sabha elections too,” he said.
Jagat Singh, a resident of Sanjanagar for the past 22 years discovered that his name had disappeared after nearly two decades. “I have been living in this locality for the past 22 years and been voting each time at the same polling station. But this time I was told that my name was missing,” he said.
