Doctors have advised people to maintain safe distance while bursting crackers. According to Minto Hospital Eye Surgeon Dr Rajanna, it is not just crackers even flower pots and rockets explode unexpectedly.

Children, he said, must be accompanied by elders and not left unattended during festivities.

As first aid, one should splash cold water on the eyes and post care is a must, doctors explained. “If there is an injury to the eye and there is no obvious damage, it is still advisable to consult a doctor.

Many times the injury may be internal and the effects may be seen after a few days,” said Samprathi Hospital Consultant Eye Surgeon and Pediatric Ophthalmologist Dr Arun Samprathi.
