With rising incidents of crimes involving delivery personnel in Bengaluru, city police commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh on Friday held a meeting with representatives of major e-commerce companies, including Swiggy, Zomato and others, at his office.

The meeting follows a spate of cases in which delivery staff have allegedly misbehaved with customers, engaged in road rage, assaulted customers over delivery delays, and even harassed women during deliveries.

Recently, a delivery worker was arrested for molesting a Brazilian model in RT Nagar while delivering groceries — an incident first reported by DH.

During the meeting, officials emphasised the need for companies to thoroughly verify vehicle documents and driving licences of gig workers before onboarding them. The firms were also advised to use the “Namma 112” helpline to report any suspicious or criminal activities involving their delivery staff.

The commissioner further directed that delivery executives must strictly follow traffic rules while on duty.

The Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) shared detailed safety and regulatory guidelines with company representatives to ensure better compliance and safer roads.
