Bengaluru: A car went up in flames along the Outer Ring Road near Doddanekundi in southeastern Bengaluru on Tuesday night, completely disrupting traffic movement for a couple of hours.
A white Maruti Suzuki Ertiga suddenly burst into flames around 7.30 pm, causing the occupants to scramble for safety.
According to the traffic police, nobody sustained any injuries. Police suspect it could have occurred due to a short circuit.
The flames rose and engulfed most of the car, charring it. The fire control room received a call at 7.30 pm and dispatched a fire tender from the Mahadevapura fire station. The flames were doused within an hour but traffic had begun to pile-up till as far as Iblur.
The massive traffic jam lasted for over an hour as fire safety officers doused the flames and the car was cleared.
Traffic movement resumed slowly only by 8.30 pm and was restored by 10 pm.
