The railways on Wednesday honoured a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) who was pushed out of a moving train for taking action against two commuters who were travelling without tickets.

South Western Railway (SWR) Divisional Railway Manager, Bengaluru Division, R S Saxena honoured V Santosh Kumar with the reward.

Last Thursday, Kumar found two passengers of a six-member team travelling on Yesvantpur–Howrah Express (Train no12864) without a valid ticket and told them to pay a penalty.

When the miscreants refused to do so, he called the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Jolarpettai who instructed the passengers to pay the fine.

When Kumar approached them to collect the fine, the team of six passengers assaulted him and took away all the cash he had and his mobile phone. They tied him up, dragged and pushed him out of the moving train near Katpadi.

However, Kumar escaped with minor injuries as the train was moving slowly at that time. He walked to a nearby level crossing gate and reached Katpadi station with the help of a gateman.

One of the six miscreants have been arrested and a case has been registered.
