Bengaluru: Two people have been arrested for allegedly trolling and harassing former Congress MP and Kannada actor Divya Spandana alias Ramya on social media.
The arrested two are Obanna T, 25, from Vijayanagar and Gangadhar, whose age wasn't clear, from Chikkaballapura. Both worked as daily wagers, police said.
According to the police, Obanna used @robertraghav5_d_boss_tj on Instagram to troll Ramya, while Gangadhar used the ID darshan_thoogudeepa___.
Ramya had filed a complaint on July 28 with the Bengaluru police commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh, alleging that she was trolled and vulgar comments were being posted against her on social media after she posted about the Supreme Court proceedings in the Renukaswmay murder case, where actor Darshan Thoogudeepa is an accused. "The two arrested are the fans of the actor," a police officer said.
Commissioner Singh said that 11 more people were identified by the crime branch investigators and that they would also face legal action. "From the investigation so far, the direct involvement of these 11 people is found," Singh said, adding that strict action will be initiated against those engaging in such activities on social media.
Meanwhile, Ramya thanked the police for the swift action. "I thank our Home Minister Dr Parameshwar avru @DrParameshwara and Seemant Kumar Singh avru @seemantsingh96 Commissioner of Police Bengaluru @CPBlr and the entire team at CCB for the swift action taken on the complaint," she posted on X.
