Bengaluru: Two former contestants of Kannada reality show Bigg Boss have been booked for brandishing weapons on social media, the police said on Monday.
The suspects, Rajath Kishan and Vinay Gowda, both residents of Bengaluru, were arrested by the Basaveshwaranagar police. They were initially issued notices to appear before the police.
"They were detained following the notices, and arrest procedures have been initiated. They will be produced in court on Tuesday," a police officer said.
A suo motu FIR was registered on March 30 based on a complaint from the station’s social media monitoring cell.
The FIR states that an 18-second Instagram reel, uploaded under the handle 'bujjjjii', showed Kishan and Gowda holding a machete, posing for the camera, and walking in public.
The FIR alleges that their actions created "an environment of fear and disrupted public peace".
The duo has been booked under Section 270 (public nuisance) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant provisions of the Arms Act.
