Panic gripped the public park for several minutes after 4.30 pm as videos posted on social media captured glimpses of the melee.

Some sections of the crowd were playing with colours and celebrating Holi when the situation escalated.

The video also showed the groups attacking each other with sticks and hurling abuses, triggering panic among other parkgoers.

Senior police officers stated that the jurisdictional Siddapura police took up a suo motu case, arrested three individuals, and were in the process of identifying the others.

“The clashes occurred between members of two Nepal-origin families who were present there due to trivial reasons,” a senior police officer said.

According to sources, an umbrella seller sustained injuries while trying to pacify the groups. Some eyewitnesses alleged negligence on the part of the park administration, stating that security staff failed to prevent some individuals from carrying alcohol inside.
