Two pedestrians were injured when a cement mixer truck, whose driver lost control over it, rammed a car, then hit two motorcycles and an autorickshaw before running the passersby down on Kodigehalli Main Road near Hebbal on Tuesday evening.

Motorists were waiting at the Kodigehalli traffic junction when Bolenath, the truck driver, lost control over the vehicle as it approached the signal around 4.30 pm. The truck first rammed a car, then took a turn as Bolenath tried to steer it.

But he only worsened the situation and the vehicle hit the bikes and the autorickshaw. It then ran down Shekhar, 40, and Anjana Murthy, 38, who were crossing the road, Hebbal traffic police sub inspector, H S Ramesh, said.

Auto driver Sukumar said he was frightened to see the speeding truck coming his way.
“I simply jumped out of my auto before the truck hit it. Luckily, I escaped unhurt. But I saw the pedestrians collapsing as the truck drove them over,” he recalled.

While Shekhar fractured his left leg, Anjana Murthy injured his right one. Both are residents of Kodigehalli. They were rushed to a private hospital from where they were shifted to Bowring Hospital for further treatment. Hospital authorities said that both were out of danger.

The traffic police seized the truck and arrested Bolenath. The accident occurred as the brakes failed, police quoted him as saying.
