Two killed, 2 injured in separate accidents

A pillion rider was killed on the spot, while two motorists were injured when a concrete mixer tipper rammed against their bikes in front of the government school at Yelachen-ahalli on Kanakapura Main Road on Monday night, said the KS Layout traffic police.

The deceased was identified as Palani (30), a scrap trader and a resident of Kottanur Dinne, while the injured were Manjunath (24) and Umesh (23), both of Yelachenahalli.
According to police, Palani was riding pillion on Manjunath’s bike, while Umesh was following them on his bike. They were heading towards Bangalore City. A speeding tipper rammed against Umesh’s bike which in turn hit Manjunath’s bike. Palani fell down, while the bike dragged Umesh and Manjunath for some distance.

Palani came under the front wheels of the tipper and was killed instantly. Umesh and Manjuanth escaped with minor injuries. The tipper driver fled after causing the accident, police said.

In another incident, a 37-year-old Shivakumar of Vijinapura was killed on the Horamavu Agara Main Road. Shivakumar was speeding on moped, lost control of his two-wheeler, fell down and sustained severe injuries. He was shifted to Victoria Hospital where he died hours later, said the police.

Three fires

Goods worth around Rs seven lakh were destroyed in separate fire mishaps since Monday in City. A chocolate factory near Sunkadakatte caught fire due to short circuit around 3 pm. Some workers noticed thick smoke and informed fire personnel. Four fire tenders rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.

A fire broke out in kitchen in Kadamba Bar and Restaurant on 27th cross in Banashankari around 11.30 pm. Electrical short circuit is stated to be cause for the incident.

The restaurant workers immediately alerted the fire force officials. Goods worth Rs 50,000 were gutted in the incident.

In the City Market area, two shops near the fort and adjacent to Victoria Hospital caught fire on early Tuesday morning. Eatables, groceries and other materials worth around Rs 3.5 lakh were destroyed. A burning cigarette butt is suspected to have caused the fire.
Fire force officials, who pressed into service 11 fire tenders to douse the fires, blamed the negligent attitude of owners as the main cause for fire in all the three incidents.

Auto driver hangs

An auto driver committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan with a saree in Jyothinagar on Monday. The deceased was identified as Raghavendra (21) from Hanumanthaia extension.

RTO officials had seized Raghavendra’s auto recently as he had failed pay tax of Rs 17,000 tax.

Raghavendra’s efforts to raise the money did not fructify, driving him into a depression, particularly as he had take care of his aged parents.

He locked his room from inside after dinner and hanged from the ceiling fan. The incident came to light on Tuesday morning, added the police.
