In view of the UG-2 project work from Minsk Square/Chinnaswamy Cricket  Stadium to Magadi Road, the laying of the  alternative diversion road on the High Court-GPO lawn passing through the Press Club and connecting the stadium, has begun.

BMRCL has already completed the construction of the alternative diversion road on Ambedkar Veedhi – about six months ago – to facilitate movement of traffic as the road will be blocked for a period of three years for construction of the UG-2.

The Corporation had been waiting for the High Court nod to construct the second alternative diversion road before starting the construction of the corridor. BMRCL has already awarded Rs 993 crore tender pertaining to UG-2 (East West corridor). It is expected to finalise and award UG-1 (North-South corridor) work from Swastik to K R Road in the coming months.

The Corporation said it will call in the high precision tunnel boring machines specially developed for the project from Japan by November or December.

By this time, it will complete the construction of the alternative road, to implement the traffic diversion plan provided by the Bangalore Traffic police. BMRCL Managing Director N Sivasailam, in a recent interaction with the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI), had said that the Corporation is awaiting the State Government’s nod to start work at Minsk Square as the work needs to be integrated with the high speed rail link to the airport, if the latter is approved.
