Bengaluru: The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, and University College London (UCL) have signed a ‘Letter of Intent’ to deepen their collaboration, particularly in IISc’s upcoming Postgraduate Medical School.
The partnership will focus on research, education, innovation, and commercialisation.
A joint working group will be established to explore collaborative initiatives in emerging interdisciplinary fields such as digital health, quantum technology, AI, and medicine.
IISc and UCL have previously worked together on projects in equitable urban design, liver tissue engineering, and quantum technologies.
In a statement, IISc Director Prof Govindan Rangarajan expressed enthusiasm about expanding the partnership. "We are delighted to build on our collaborations with UCL to carry out cutting-edge research in new and emerging areas. UCL and IISc's joint efforts will also empower education and innovation in medical research and healthcare, which ties in with our efforts to build world-class postgraduate programmes at our upcoming medical school."
UCL President and Provost Dr Michael Spence added, “UCL shares IISc’s commitment to uniting researchers across disciplines to address the world’s most urgent challenges.”
The collaboration aims to foster new programmes, including joint PhDs, sharing best practices in health systems, faculty exchanges, and research fellowships.
