"Solving 178 cases of chain snatching, robbery, dacoity, house-break, vehicle and other thefts in the last one month, the West Division police team seized valuables worth Rs 1.68 crore and arrested 67 persons", City Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari said.

Significant among the cases was the arrest of three vehicles thieves and recovery of vehicles worth over Rs 46 lakh from them. In a case of house break, three persons were arrested and 1.3 kg of gold ornaments worth Rs 43 lakh seized from them.

All the three accused are involved in 24 such cases in different police station limits in the city. The main accused, Velu, had been absconding for past three years, Bidari said. In another case of theft, Upparpet police nabbed five persons and recovered 25 two-wheelers and 202 grams of gold worth Rs 16.5 lakh in all from them.
