Residents of Kodiyala Karenahalli village on Tuesday protested against issuing Transferable Development Rights (TDRs) to 40 acres of land near the village.

The residents under the aegis of Raitha Hita Rakshana Samithi staged the protest in front of the BBMP office, demanding the civic body to withhold issuing of the TDRs.

The villagers said the land near the village was identified to construct a landfill, which would have severe consequences on its residents. Apart from adverse effects on the health of villagers and its cattle, the plant would be detrimental to around 400 acres of grassland and agricultural land in the village, the protesters alleged.

The villagers said the civic body had once given up the proposal. “However, vested interests have left no stone unturned to ensure the TDRs for the site. This is a ploy to benefit certain individuals that the Palike should not entertain,” the villagers said.
