The event, organised in association with the Deccan Herald-Prajavani to commemorate the centenary celebrations of late V Lakshminarayana, witnessed renowned violinists from the United States, Algeria, Russia and Norway performing to a packed hall along with violinist of international fame, Dr L Subramaniam.
In the beginning, the artistes from the US presented a separate performance. Later, eight violinists under the direction of Dr L Subramanian presented an ensemble on the theme for about thirty minutes.
The entry to the event was free and the Hall was full to its capacity even before the event began. The audience responded with a standing ovation. Prof V Lakshminarayana award was conferred on renowned Carnatic vocalist, Dr R K Srikantan on the occasion.
Ambi Subramanian, the son of Dr L Subramanian was felicitated with a reward of Rs 50,000. All the overseas artistes were honoured with a purse of Rs 10,000 each.
Earlier, Minister of State for Railways K H Muniyappa, Additional Chief Secretary K Jairaj, litterateur Dr U R Ananthamurthy and Prajavani editor K N Shanth Kumar inaugurated the event by lighting a lamp. Dr R K Srikantan will perform at the Chowdiah Memorial Hall on Thursday and the entry to the concert is free.
