There is a rise in the number of cases related to viral fever and cold. According to doctors, there has been a 15 per cent rise in the seasonal influenza cases in the last two weeks.
Attributing the sudden spurt in the number of cases to the cold and humid weather, Dr Aravinda Jagadeesha, a consultant physician with Suguna Hospital, said the incidence of viral infection was unusually more this month. “Many patients are visiting doctors with viral fever, cough, runny nose, loose motion and watery eyes in the last two weeks. Although, viral infection is routine, there is more severity to it,” he said. Patients with high temperature and acute body ache visited him. Personal hygiene, he cautioned, was very important with people suffering from viral cold or fever. They must ensure utmost caution so that the others are not infected.
Dr Ashok from St Theresa’s Hospital said that there was a rise in the cases by 20 per cent in the last 15 days. As for dengue and chikungunya, the incidence of which were quite high last year, a handful of cases were reported this season too, he added.
Dr Ravindra K R from Victoria Hospital said the cases of the two vector-borne diseases had come down this year. However, viral infection cases had certainly increased, courtesy change in weather. If the fever persisted for more than two days, the patients should consult a doctor as it may lead to upper respiratory infection.
