Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Air Customs arrested a visually impaired man at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) for allegedly smuggling gold worth Rs 3.44 crore from Dubai, officials said on Friday.
The suspect’s identity has not yet been disclosed.
Acting on specific intelligence, customs officers intercepted the passenger upon his arrival from Dubai on March 4.
During the search, officers discovered 3.995 kg of gold concealed under his shirt.
"The gold, valued at Rs 3,44,38,796, was hidden under the suspect’s shirt,” customs officials said in a statement. “A case under relevant smuggling laws has been registered, and an investigation is underway to determine if he acted alone.”
The arrest comes a day after the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) apprehended Kannada actor Ranya Rao at KIA. She was found smuggling 14.2 kg of gold worth Rs 12.56 crore.
