Students studying in the six engineering colleges that Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has disaffiliated this academic year for flouting affiliation norms, will be relocated in other engineering colleges in the State to ensure that they complete their degree without any hurdle, said VTU Vice Chancellor H Maheshappa.
The disaffiliated institutions include Nadgir Institute of Engineering and Technology, Bangalore, GSS Institute of Technology, Bangalore, Basava Academy of Engineering Bangalore, Sri Basaveshwara Institute of Technology, Tiptur, Sri Krishna School of Engineering and Management, Bangalore and Sri Belimatha Mahasamsthana Institute of Technology, Bangalore. Explaining the seat re-allotment process, the VC told the media that the varsity has already prepared a merit list of students studying in these colleges. The process is set to commence on August 5.
“We will go by an aggregate of their previous semester marks. If the student is in Semester 7, an aggregate of his marks of the previous semesters will be taken into account,” he said. Further, the students can choose seats across any engineering college in the State in the order of their merit. Maheshappa also said the disaffiliation this year comes only as a warning bell and the university will crack the whip on other engineering colleges flouting norms as well. “Many more colleges are likely to lose their affiliation next year,” he said hinting that at least 10 to 15 colleges faced such a risk.
No to JSS, Mauritius
Further, the university has also classified JSS Academy of Technical Education, Mauritius as “Zero Intake Category.” The university received complaints that the institute was functioning in Mauritius without proper affiliation of UGC or AICTE. The VTU too has not given affiliation to this institute, Maheshappa said.
They have written to the institute asking whether it has any valid documents supporting the affiliation with any of the government agencies concerned, but the university is yet to receive a response from it, he added.
In addition, another institute that was caught in the row this time was Reva Institute of Technology. Last year, the institute had conducted admissions for an increased intake claiming permission by the AICTE for the same. However, the university later found out that no such permission was given.
AICTE too has written a letter to the university about violation of norms by the institute concerned. The university has constituted a committee to look into the same, according to the Vice-Chancellor.
