Bengaluru: Going back on the earlier policy of giving an end-to-end contract for waste collection, transportation, and processing to four companies that put up Integrated Waste Processing Plants on the city’s outskirts, Deputy Chief Minister and Bangalore Development Minister D K Shivakumar announced on Saturday that Bangalore Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) will call seven-year tenders for waste collection and transportation in 33 packages (one package per assembly constituency, and two in big constituencies).
The cabinet had recently approved the proposal, which could cost approximately Rs 4,000 crore.
The earlier tender, where the city’s waste collection was divided into 89 packages, was scrapped by the high court and allowed for a re-tender. Shivakumar also said that tenders for setting up Integrated Solid Waste Management Parks will be called within the next 15 days.
Clean Bengaluru
Shivakumar also announced that the government has decided to launch the ‘Clean Bengaluru’ programme to clean up all the waste and debris dumped across the city.
For this, he said, a new mobile application would be launched for citizens to report blackspots and Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste. “We will depute officials and marshals for the duty. The public can also alert the officials about such spots either by calling a dedicated phone line or through the mobile application,” Shivakumar said.
