'Water scarcity has strong bearing on life'

 The consensus among biodiversity experts at the ‘International Seminar on Water and Biodiversity’ was that climate change had emerged as an aggravating phenomenon, depleting water resources and biodiversity.

Vice-Chancellor of the Bangalore University, Dr N Prabhu Dev expressed sadness over the increasing water pollution, and said the scarcity of water also had a strong bearing on the economic health of a civilisation and the quality of life.  

Professor Dieter Prinz from the German Karlsruhe Institute of Technology touched upon issues such as migration to urban pockets, the increase in population in India and its ramifications on water resources and biodiversity.  

The seminar was organised on Monday by the Department of Civil Engineering, University Visweswaraya College of Engineering, Bangalore University
