The deceased was identified as Anushri, daughter of Ramachandrappa and Lakshmi Bai, residents of Shivalingaiah Colony on HAL Road. The family, originally from Kalaburagi, are daily wage labourers who moved to the city a few years ago.

Police said the tanker had arrived to deliver water to a building. Anushri was reportedly playing near the spot when, after unloading the water, the driver reversed the vehicle and hit her.

The driver fled the scene after the accident. The Jeevan Bima Nagar traffic police have registered a case and are investigating further.
