The group will be opening for the hit boyband Backstreet Boys and ballad king Richard Marx at the Rock In India music festival. Metrolife spoke to Ross Learmonth, the vocalist and guitarist of Prime Circle to find what’s in store for the music-lovers of Bangalore.
“This time around, we know a lot more about the City,” he says. “We are really looking forward to playing in Bangalore, and are extremely happy that the people of the City like us, and think we are a great band.” Apart from Ross, the band includes Dale Schnettler, Dirk Bisschoff, Neil Breytenbach and Marco Gomes.
All of them met in an unusual way. “We met at a tribute show organised for one of my friends, who had passed away.” And how did the name Prime Circle come about? “The band supposed to be a prime circle of friends and musicians,” he answers.
Ross describes Prime Circle’s music as “anthemic rock”. The band likes all kinds of music from “heavy metal to the softest ballads”. “So our inspirations are everybody, from Bob Dylan to Metallica,” he laughs. Ask him on how does it feel to open for Backstreet Boys and Richard Marx, and he says, “It will be an interesting evening with a nice blend of music.” And what’s the band planning to play? “It will be a mix of all our albums along with a lot of new stuff,” he says.
India has emerged as a favourite place to perform for the band, which has performed in various countries like Dubai, Bahrain, UK and Germany. “One of the best concerts we performed was in South Africa at the My Coke Fest, where we shared the stage with bands like Metallica and Collective Soul.” Another concert he remembers is Nelson Mandela’s 46664 Concert.
What are the band’s future plans?
“We hope to return to Bangalore and Europe.” He adds, “A documentary is also being made on our experiences in India.” Prime Circle also hopes to have its new album released sometime this year.
“We just want to take over the world and hope to play in as many places as possible,” he signs off. Catch Prime Circle live at Gayatri Vihar, Palace Grounds on February 21.
