The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has announced a complete ban on animal slaughter in slaughterhouses and the sale of meat in shops across its jurisdiction, on the occasion of Sadhu Vaswani Jayanti on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.
The GBA order said the authority prohibited animal slaughter in slaughterhouses and the sale of meat in meat shops within Greater Bengaluru on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, in observance of Sadhu Vaswani Jayanti.
Who is Sadhu Vaswani?
Sadhu T L Vaswani was born on November 25, 1879, in Hyderabad (Sind). He was an Indian educationist and a prolific writer who authored several books in English and Sindhi.
He founded the Mira Movement and played a key role in establishing St Mira’s School in Hyderabad, Sindh, before moving to Pune in 1949.
According to their website, he was an Indian educator, a spiritual master and an advocate for vegetarianism.
Why is November 25 a no-meat day?
As per the Sadhu Vaswani Centre website, November 25 is celebrated as International Meatless Day and International Vegetarian Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sadhu T L Vaswani and is celebrated by abstaining from eating non-vegetarian food.
The International meatless day was proposed in 1986 by Dada JP Vaswani, the former spiritual head of the Sadhu Vaswani Mission to continue the vision set forth by Sadhu T L Vaswani, reads the website.
