Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Tuesday that he would recommend to the union government to name the Bengaluru metro after Valmiki.
"I cannot do it myself. Both the Centre and the state are running the metro. I will recommend it. The Centre has to agree. We need to see what happens," Siddaramaiah said, speaking at the Valmiki Jayanti event.
The chief minister promised that Congress leader V S Ugrappa's suggestion of including Valmiki and Ramayana in textbooks would be considered.
Noting that two acres of land had been granted to build Valmiki Bhavan/Soudha, he said the necessary funds for the project would be announced in next year’s Budget.
