Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Urban District Wine Merchants Association staged a protest on Friday over various demands, including a 20% profit margin for retail sales.

One of the key demands is reduction of the additional excise duty along with capping the licence fee.

"It is crucial to cap the licence fee as middle- and lower-middle class families won’t be able to afford alcohol with food in big restaurants,” a press release from the association read.

The release also mentioned that arrangements should be made to legalise the sale of packed food on licensed premises.
